Three-Phase Current

Estimate balanced three-phase operating current from line voltage and power.

Input Parameters

Edit the example values. Results update as you type.

Enter a decimal greater than 0 and no greater than 1.

Enter 1 when the input is electrical active power.

Results

RMS Operating Current
17.875A
Active Input Power
10kW

Formula

I = P / (√3 × U × cosφ × η)

Substitution

I = 10,000 / (√3 × 380 × 0.85 × 1) = 17.875 A

Calculation Steps

  1. Convert input power to 10,000 W.
  2. Use efficiency to obtain electrical input power, then divide by √3, line voltage and power factor.

Result Explanation

The calculation assumes a balanced three-phase load and line-to-line RMS voltage.Use efficiency 1 when electrical input power is known.

Formulas and FAQ

I = P / (√3 × U × cosφ × η)
Should I enter line voltage or phase voltage?

Enter line-to-line RMS voltage. For a 380/220 V system, enter 380 V.
