Transformer

Convert ideal winding voltage and turns, and single-phase or balanced three-phase apparent power and current.

Input Parameters

Edit the example values. Results update as you type.

Use winding terminal voltage for turns-ratio mode and line voltage for three-phase rating mode.

Results

Theoretical Secondary Turns N₂
24turns
Turns Ratio N₁/N₂
9.583
Current Ratio I₁/I₂
0.1043

Formula

V₁/V₂ = N₁/N₂ · I₁/I₂ = N₂/N₁

Substitution

N₂ = 230 × 24 / 230 = 24 turns

Calculation Steps

  1. Rearrange the ideal transformer voltage-to-turns relationship for the required quantity.
  2. Substitute RMS values to obtain turns ratio 9.583; the current ratio is its reciprocal, 0.1043.

Result Explanation

Ideal relationship for a single-phase transformer or an individual phase winding. The three-phase line-voltage relationship also depends on the vector group. Actual windings require integer-turn and equipment-design checks.

Formulas and FAQ

V₁/V₂ = N₁/N₂ · S = k × V × I
Can three-phase line voltage be used directly in the turns ratio?

Turns ratios use winding phase voltage. Three-phase line voltage also depends on the connection group. Apparent-power mode uses balanced line voltage and line current with k=√3.
